Volunteer treasurer role

We are looking for a Treasurer with the knowledge and understanding to help develop systems and processes and oversight of GORT’s finance activities at a strategic level. Previous experience as a Treasurer would be advantageous, but is not essential.

You need not be a qualified accountant but you must have a sound knowledge of financial procedures together with a good working knowledge of financial legislation and practices (including up to date knowledge of VAT and HMRC requirements) relating to the running of a registered charity to fulfil both financial and governance duties.

Key responsibilities:

• Ensure proper and effective financial recording, procedures and controls are in place.

• Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisations. Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy.

• Oversee production of necessary financial reports/ returns, accounts and audits.

• Liaise with the Trust Development Manager and the board to ensure financial viability.

• Take the lead in interpreting financial data and making fellow board members aware of their financial obligations.

• Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy

• Ensuring that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity

• Monitoring the organisation’s investment activity and ensuring it is consistent with the organisation’s policies and legal responsibilities

• Lead on appointing and liaising with auditors and/or independent examiners.

In addition to our general trustee requirements, we're looking for someone who has good financial skills and can communicate clearly.
