We are looking for a Treasurer with the knowledge and understanding to help develop systems and processes and oversight of GORT’s finance activities at a strategic level. Previous experience as a Treasurer would be advantageous, but is not essential.
You need not be a qualified accountant but you must have a sound knowledge of financial procedures together with a good working knowledge of financial legislation and practices (including up to date knowledge of VAT and HMRC requirements) relating to the running of a registered charity to fulfil both financial and governance duties.
Ensure proper and effective financial recording, procedures and controls are in place.
Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisations. Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy.
Oversee production of necessary financial reports/ returns, accounts and audits.
Liaise with the Trust Development Manager and the board to ensure financial viability.
Take the lead in interpreting financial data and making fellow board members aware of their financial obligations.
Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy
Ensuring that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity
Monitoring the organisation’s investment activity and ensuring it is consistent with the organisation’s policies and legal responsibilities
Lead on appointing and liaising with auditors and/or independent examiners.
In addition to our general trustee requirements, we're looking for someone who has good financial skills and can communicate clearly.
